children and teen's therapy in philadelphia

Anxiety can look different for kids and teens.  The more obvious signs are fear, excessive worrying or nervousness, social anxiety and panic attacks, but it can also look like phobias, selective mutism, and refusing to talk about or do certain things. Sometimes your child may complain about certain body sensations such as feeling out of breath, heart racing or difficulty eating or sleeping. Our specially trained therapists are here to help.

Depression is not always easy to spot. If your child  is consistently angry, withdrawn and losing interest in sports or other activities they used to enjoy,  has low self esteem,  sleep disturbances or behavior problems, they could have depression. In adolescents, depression can easily be written off as teen angst.  Don't let your child struggle alone; we can help!

When a child struggles with their mental health, the whole family can be impacted.  Divorce or other transitions can also be difficult on children in the family, leading to stress and conflict.  Therapy is the key to breaking that cycle. We take a holistic approach and will teach your child or family communication skills and tools to improve their relationships.

ADHD, ODD , tantrums, aggression and other behavioral difficulties can be really difficult to navigate.  We believe behavioral issues are not a result of "bad kids" but children who are struggling with their mental health. Our therapists use compassionate and evidence-based approaches that create real results in their behavior as well as mood.

We provide gender affirming care for children and teens who are navigating being LGBTQ+ or struggling with their gender identity. With  therapists who are queer themselves, in addition to their clinical expertise,  they know firsthand how difficult it can be to struggle with this as a young person.  We will meet your child where they are and support them in this journey while teaching them compassion and emotional regulation skills.

Despite popular belief, eating disorders can not be diagnosed simply by how someone looks. Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that require a collaborative approach. We use a Health At Every Size (HAES) framework to help your child or teen recover from disordered eating, body image issues, or picky eating and AFRID.

get started!

After having my daughter and talking with friends who have school-aged children, I realized that there were very few mental health therapy services dedicated specifically to children.  As a licensed therapist myself,  I have watched therapy for adults become more de-stigmatized and accessible over the past decade. Unfortunately, children have been left out. Recent data shows that children and teens are experiencing more mental health challenges than ever.  As parents, we want to help our kids in the best way that we can. That is why I created Therapy for Kids. We have specifically trained pediatric therapists who will provide your child with the tools they need to thrive.

One of the hardest parts of therapy? Getting your child to go! We make therapy fun and engaging by tapping into their curiosity and interests. They may not even realize they are learning skills and tools to change their life!

feels like fun

Research shows that therapy is more effective for kids when families are involved.  We believe in partnering with caregivers throughout every step of the process so that you can support your child outside of the therapy room.

collaborative

Our therapists specialize in working with kids ages 5- 19 years old. We use research backed approaches including: Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).

Evidence based

Therapy that kids enjoy
and parents feel good about.

Since children do not have the same level of communication skills as adults, our therapists will join your child in "their world" through play. In this process, the therapist will not only understand what your child is struggling with and why, but also teach them skills and tools so that they can self regulate and feel better. Our therapists will also involve you in the process so that you can learn how to understand and support your child best.

play therapy

We work with children ages 5-9 using a variety of evidence based practices that will both engage your child and teach them skills to be able to better manage their mental health.  Our therapists use a variety of approaches such as: play therapy, art therapy, CBT, DBT, ERP, Behavioral Activation Therapy and more! We work with you and your child to customize a treatment plan based on your child's strengths and their needs.

We work with adolescents ages 10-19 years old using evidence-based techniques such as CBT, DBT, ERP, Behavioral Activation and more.  Adolescence can be a difficult time, filled with rough transitions and lots of change. We will equip your teen with the skills and tools they need to handle life's ups and downs and put them on a path for mental wellness.

Therapy for Teens

When your child or teen is struggling with their mental health or having behavioral issues , it can be a struggle to know what to do as a caregiver.  Parent coaching, parent coaching may be right for you! In sessions, a therapist will provide you with direct feedback on how to interact with your child when they are struggling with difficult behaviors.  You will learn exactly what to say and how to best support them, while also holding boundaries.

Parent Coaching

Families play a crucial role in supporting children in their mental health recovery, especially if their is sibling or family conflict occurring. We take a collaborative approach, treating the whole family and understanding where there is tension. Together with your therapist, your family will learn how to communicate more effectively, have more compassion for each other so that you can have a healthy relationship.
